Waiwera Ashram (Foundation Inc.) is both a place and an organisation.
Our organisation: Waiwera Ashram Foundation Inc. is an incorporated society (established in 1963), and registered charity. Its purpose is to run a meditation, spiritual and cultural centre focusing on spiritual and cultural development through relaxation and contemplative methods and teaching and learning. Waiwera Ashram Foundation Inc. has a membership based structure and a management committee made up of volunteer people power. Our volunteers, members and friends come from all age groups, walks of life, ethnicities and diverse belief systems. Whilst the organisation is non-affiliated, we have a heritage connection to Paramahansa Yogananda and Indian mysticism which we acknowledge and treasure.
Our place: Waiwera Ashram is situated in central Waiwera. We’re 30 minutes drive north of Auckland in an urban setting very close to the beach and coastline. A key amenity is our access to the local geo-thermal mineral waters in our bath-house. Our rooms function as social and sacred spaces and are on the top floor of the two-storied Ashram building. The main room is used for events that include speakers, classes, meetings and cultural celebrations. Off that are bedrooms, a library, a shared kitchen and bathroom/toilet facilities. At the back of the property we have paths going up into native bush and a deck giving views of the neighbourhood, the sea, and the nearby Wenderholm hills.
