2018 WAIWERA ASHRAM OPEN DAYS

NOVEMBER: Saturday 17th

SHARED VEGETARIAN LUNCH 12.00 – 1 pm    Please Note – we may close early today.

A very low-key day today as from what we hear there’s a lot on around Auckland at the same time.  We’re keeping it very informal at the Ashram.  An early lunch and a bit of a catch up – please bring something to share and/or a gold coin donation.  See you there!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Waiwera News:  We trust you are all in good spirits and looking forward to the festive season. Waiwera is warming up with a few hardy souls already swimming in the sea.  Sadly, the Hot Pools over the road are now closed indefinitely and it remains to be seen what will happen to the space.  Hopefully, the Ashram will not find itself overlooking a high – rise apartment block.
STAYOVERS: we have stayover availability albeit a little limited while our downstairs room is under renovation, at $25 per night for members.   Also our hot mineral baths are on tap at $5 per bath.  Please ring to arrange.
We are planning our next talk for December (15th).  Our October and November (17th), Open Days are lower-key and informal including discussion topics or a gardening working bee.  Whatever the style, feel welcome to come along and keep in touch whether for a quick cuppa or to stay longer.
The world may be waking up but it needs us more than ever to tap into the sacred fire deep within every human heart, and put it into action.  How can we express Divine Universal Compassion in radical action but stay grounded?
This talk will look fearlessly at problems and inspire with possibilities, while firmly grounded in deepest Spirit.  Discussion is welcome, whatever your spiritual belief or none.
Everyone welcome to our shared vegetarian lunch – please bring something to share and/or gold coin koha.
We have a subject to throw into the mix for the afternoon – trees.   Their symbolism and history, their current status in our world – plenty of tree stories bad and good in Auckland for instance – and what they are.  Aotearoa New Zealand’s native trees could be a place to start the conversation…
Robyn Hill has been a traveller of Sacred Sites since 1999.  These places include India, Egypt, China, Tibet, South America, Chile, Mexico (Mayan and Aztec cultures), United States of America (Hopi Indians) Amazon rainforest, Israel, and Jordon.  The early civilization of the indigenous people in Australia, the Aboriginal Australians, including Ayers Rock was yet to be visited.
This conference was the first of its kind held in Uluru, January 2018.  Topics covered included light language of the star people, crystal bowl vibrations, near death or out of the body experiences, the Egyption connection to Australia, Alcheringa – the sacred stone and the Aboriginal people, connected to the Pleides Constellation.  Robyn will cover an overview of these talks given at the convention and it promises to be a most interesting and informative afternoon.
Thank you Peter – Namaste.
Peter Quin is relocating, so he will no longer be able to lead us in the Relaxation Meditation on our Open Days. For many years Peter has generously driven up from Auckland despite atrocious weather, colds/flu, so we could start our Open Day with a beautiful relaxing experience.  Many of us have benefited greatly from these meditations and he will be a hard act to follow.   Thank you so much Peter.  Good luck for the future and we hope you will stay in touch!
Picking up from the AGM we’d like to continue to take stock of where Waiwera Ashram is going in the current climate of change and challenges.
In this Open Day meeting we invite members, friends/visitors to contribute their thoughts and ideas and discuss how to implement them in practical terms.   Examples of issues raised at the AGM included volunteer burnout and the scale of ongoing repairs and maintenance.
We encourage a creative exchange in a relaxed and social setting and look forward to seeing you there!
12.30 pm  Continue meeting (eat while we meet!)
Speaker: 1.30pm.  Welcome to Loveday Kingsford, our guest speaker this afternoon…
‘Then and Now. From the Fifties to the Post Millennium and the Once and Future Gnosis’
Today Loveday Kingsford gives a brief historical run down on the period between the 1950’s and now, the changes which have occurred – socially, ideologically, politically and philosophically and how these changes impact on organisations which were once part of (at least in the West) a widespread awakening and sincerely spiritually seeking aspect which fuelled the relative richness of creativity and culture in the sixties and early seventies. The founding of The Yoga Society of N.Z. and the Ashram were part of this upsurge as was much of the pop culture especially the music.
How this impulse was checked, obliterated and demonised is part of the story but the important point is where to from here?
AFTERNOON SPEAKER 1.30pm        Everyone welcome!         Free Entry
We’re delighted to welcome Loveday Kingsford back to the Ashram as our guest speaker for this afternoon’s presentation:
Then and Now. From the Fifties to the Post Millennium and the Once and Future Gnosis
a talk by Loveday Kingsford ~ 1.30pm
Today Loveday Kingsford gives a brief historical run down on the period between the 1950’s and now, the changes which have occurred – socially, ideologically, politically and philosophically and how these changes impact on organisations which were once part of (at least in the West) a widespread awakening and sincerely spiritually seeking aspect which fuelled the relative richness of creativity and culture in the sixties and early seventies. The founding of The Yoga Society of N.Z. and the Ashram were part of this upsurge as was much of the pop culture especially the music.
How this impulse was checked, obliterated and demonised is part of the story but the important point is where to from here?
1.30pm TALK:  ROSS WISEMAN
New Zealand’s Hidden Past 2016′
We welcome Ross back today as he travels to distribute his newest book, ‘New Zealand’s Hidden Past 2016’.  This follows 15 years research since his previous edition of ‘New Zealand’s Hidden Past’ was published in 2001.  Ross Wiseman explores the thesis that when Maori arrived in New Zealand about 1350AD, the original inhabitants of this country had already been here for thousands of years.  By meticulously analysing tephra from the previous two volcanic eruptions at Taupo in addition to the dozens of rock markings under the ash on Mt Tauhara and including the latest carbon dating evidence, Ross Wiseman has reconstructed a vivid portrait of a legendary European civilisation he asserts reached these shores in previous millennia.
This booklet will add a new dimension to the understanding of New Zealand’s Hidden Past 2016.  Ross will provide free copies of his book to attendees.
MEMBERSHIP SUBSCRIPTIONS:  Yes, it’s that time of year again members.  Please get your annual subscription of $20 to us before the end of March – then it can show up in time for our financial statements!  All extra donations gratefully received.
‘An Advanced Culture’
This afternoon we welcome our speaker Ross Wiseman, an Auckland writer and publisher who has written over thirty books on New Zealand subjects in the past fifty years. This will be his third talk at the Ashram since the first one in the late 1990s.  Today he will be talking on his latest book entitled ‘An Advanced Culture’ which he describes as: “an interpretation of what is really going on behind our everyday lives which an advanced culture was partly responsible for, and how that brought us to the world we live in today.  99% of people don’t know what is going on and some don’t care, but the 1% that do know are keeping quiet about it”.
Ross will give a general outline of the contents of the 88 page A5 size booklet and distribute them free after the half hour-talk to anyone who wishes to read on the subject matter in more detail.
Coming up:  November 21st and December 19th are our third Saturday open day dates for the last two months of 2015.  At the moment we are planning a Spring working bee in November and a Christmas lunch in December with details still to be confirmed.  If you know of anyone else you think would like to speak on one of our open days please do get in touch.
